Remembering Jeanne Parsley: A Life Well-Lived
Jeanne Anderson Parsley, a beloved educator, missionary, and volunteer, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, in Essex, Vt. Born on March 28, 1927, in Elizabeth, N.J., she dedicated her life to making a positive impact on those around her.
A Life of Service and Dedication
Jeanne’s journey began in Long Island before she settled in Connecticut and graduated from New Haven High School in 1944. She later attended Bates College, where she met her husband, Charles John Parsley Jr. After marrying in 1948, they continued their education at Boston University, with Jeanne earning a master’s degree in religious education.
The couple’s calling led them to Vermont, where Charles served as a minister in various communities. In 1964, they embarked on a missionary journey to India, where they spent four years working in different regions. Upon their return to the U.S., Jeanne pursued a career in education, teaching and earning a second master’s degree in elementary education.
A Legacy of Love and Friendship
Throughout her life, Jeanne’s passion for travel took her to over 50 countries, enriching her experiences and broadening her horizons. Her dedication to volunteer work and community service left a lasting impact on all those she encountered. Whether teaching English as a second language or serving as a guardian ad litem, Jeanne’s kindness and compassion touched countless lives.
Jeanne’s warm and welcoming nature endeared her to many, fostering lifelong friendships that spanned the globe. Her love for her family was unwavering, and she cherished moments spent together, especially during holidays and gatherings.
Celebrating a Life Well-Lived
Jeanne is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service. A memorial service in her honor will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington on January 19, with Rev. Karen Johnston presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to charitable organizations close to Jeanne’s heart.
