Spice on Snow 2023: Roots Music Festival & MLK Concert in Montpelier – Jan. 17–19
After a five-year hiatus, Montpelier’s three-day roots music festival is back, and it promises to be a weekend filled with music, dance, and community spirit. Montpelier Alive and the Summit School of Traditional Music and Culture are proud to present the “Spice on Snow Winter Music Festival,” set to take place from Friday, Jan. 17, through Sunday, Jan. 19.
Get Ready for a Musical Extravaganza
The event features a diverse lineup of performers from various music traditions, promising to captivate audiences of all ages. The festival kicks off on Jan. 17 with the powerhouse ensemble Rose and the Bros from Ithaca, New York, at the Capitol Plaza ballroom. Described as rooted in the dance tradition with Cajun/zydeco and country music influence, this band is sure to get the crowd moving and grooving.
Immerse Yourself in Music and Dance
Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy performances by 15 bands at different venues across the city, showcasing a wide range of musical styles. From old-time duo Richie and Rosie to local favorite Cajun band Pointe Noir, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, instrumental and dance workshops hosted by the Summit School of Traditional Music and Culture offer a unique opportunity to learn about Cajun dance, fiddle, banjo, and more.
Celebrate MLK Jr. Day with a Special Concert
The festival culminates on Sunday, Jan. 19, with a special MLK Jr. Commemorative Concert at the Lost Nation Theater in City Hall. Featuring over 55 performers, including the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, the Montpelier Community Gospel Choir, and Shidaa Projects, this concert promises to be a powerful tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
