VTDigger’s Statehouse Coverage: Serving Vermont in 2025
Dear reader,
As the holiday season brings bustling downtowns full of shoppers, VTDigger is gearing up for the upcoming legislative session starting on January 8. But why all the excitement? Well, for four months, the inner workings of state government, usually hidden behind closed doors or private video calls, are brought into the spotlight. This is when representatives of the executive branch face tough questions in legislative committees and corridors of the Statehouse.
If you want to see VTDigger continue to advocate for Vermonters by asking the tough questions, consider joining our year-end member drive with a donation today. By supporting us, you’ll also be aiding families in need of warmth this winter through our partnership with Wood4Good.
With Vermont having lost 75% of its newspaper jobs over the past 25 years, VTDigger’s coverage of the Legislature has never been more crucial. This upcoming session, we plan to shed light on various pressing issues, including education funding, rising property taxes, the impact of new initiatives on hospitals, the state’s role in addressing housing and homelessness crises, and Vermont’s preparedness for climate catastrophes like flooding.
Delving into Key Legislation
Throughout the session, we will be closely following developments on key legislation, deciphering how it affects individuals, businesses, and local governments. We will also be keeping a keen eye on conflicts of interest, sharing hard-to-access testimonies, and questioning why certain topics are being overlooked.
Support VTDigger’s Mission
Today, we urge you to help VTDigger continue telling the stories that others aren’t covering and assist families in staying warm this winter. With less than a week left to send 15 cords of firewood to Vermont families in need, every donation counts. Just 80 donations can provide one cord of firewood, offering four weeks of warmth to a family.
