By 11 a.m. on Monday, the Winooski River gauge in the area indicated a water level of seven feet, just below the 11-foot action stage that would prompt preparations for potential flooding. However, by 1:15 p.m., the river had peaked at 9.63 feet before dropping to 7.24 feet half an hour later. This rapid decrease in water level was accompanied by the clearing of most of the ice through the city.

Despite preparations, nearby roads and sidewalks remained open as the city did not need to close any due to the ice jam.
