Ready to hit the ground running? So, today marks the big day for the annual Corporate Cup 5K run and walk race happening in Montpelier on May 15. Thirteen downtown roads in Montpelier are going to be closed, and traffic is going to be all sorts of modified this afternoon. Starting and finishing at the iconic Vermont Statehouse, this race is a part of a spring tradition that has been going on for a solid 45 years.
The city of Montpelier dropped a press release, stating that they’re shutting down some major roadways to make sure everyone stays safe during the event. Here’s a list of the affected roads, in case you were planning on cruising through downtown Montpelier:
– State Street (start/finish area)
– Bailey Avenue
– Memorial Drive
– Taylor Street
– Elm Street (Vermont Route 12)
– Vine Street
– Summer Street
– Pearl Street
– Spring Street
– Court Street
– Governor Davis Avenue
– Baldwin Street
– Governor Aiken Avenue
So, the race course kicks off and wraps up on State Street right in front of the Capitol Building. Participants will be making their way through downtown Montpelier, cruising along Elm Street (Vermont Route 12) through the “Meadow” area, and then heading back to the Capitol through more downtown streets. If you’re planning on driving around on May 15, you might want to take a different route and give yourself some extra time. Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for pedestrians, runners, and race officials. The city also suggests following those detour signs, as well as expecting delays and limited parking downtown.
Now, in case you’re wondering about any last-minute changes or road closures, the city of Montpelier will be sending out updates through the Vermont Alert (VT-Alert) notification system. If you’re not already signed up for VT-Alert, you might want to get on that ASAP. And hey, if you’ve got something to say about all this, feel free to submit a letter to the editor or drop a news tip if you know of something we should cover. Organizing an event of your own? Well, why not submit it to our calendar and get the word out there.
