Norman Joseph Lacharite: A Life Remembered, 1930-2024
Norman Joseph Lacharite, affectionately known as Norm, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, at Birchwood Terrace Rehab and Healthcare in Burlington, Vermont, after a brief illness. He was a beloved figure, not only to his family but also to the community as a whole. Norm, or Papa as his family lovingly called him, was a pillar of generosity and kindness, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
### A Life Well-Lived
Norm was born in 1930 and spent most of his life in Winooski, Vermont. After graduating from Saint Michael’s College, Norm was drafted into the army and served in Korea. Upon his return, he dedicated nearly four decades to teaching English as a second language to students from around the world. As a professor emeritus, Norm chaired the ESL program and was a key figure in the department of Applied Linguistics. His passion for education and dedication to his students left an indelible mark on all those he taught.
### Family and Love
Norm’s love story with Elizabeth Daly began at Saint Michael’s College, where they met and eventually married in 1958. Together, they raised two daughters, Ann Regina and Martha. Despite facing challenges, such as Ann’s illness, Norm and Elizabeth remained devoted parents, providing unwavering care and support. The retirement years brought joy as they watched their family grow, with grandsons Christopher and Adam becoming the center of their lives.
### Legacy and Love
Norm’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his memory lives on through his family. Survived by his daughter Martha, grandsons Christopher and Adam, great-grandchildren Mina, Teddie Rose, and Rowdy, as well as a host of relatives and friends, Norm’s impact will continue to be felt for generations to come. His infectious smile and unwavering kindness were the hallmarks of his character, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Norm, let us remember his legacy of love, compassion, and generosity. In his honor, contributions can be made to St. Francis Xavier School or Our Lady of Providence in Winooski, Vermont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski, at 11 a.m. Norm’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his warmth and grace.
