Jean Paul Hawkins: A Life Well-Lived
The world lost a beloved member of its community on January 19, 2025, with the passing of Jean Paul Hawkins in Burlington, Vt. Born in Piggott, Ark., on March 4, 1937, to Herbert and Zilpah Hawkins, Jean leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a deep connection to nature.
A Family Man and Nature Enthusiast
Jean was a devoted husband to Sara Lynn Owen Hawkins and a loving father to Kent Douglas Hawkins and Paul Owen Hawkins. His passion for the outdoors was evident in every aspect of his life, from his career with the U.S. Forestry Service to his hobbies of bird watching, motorcycle riding, and playing the harmonica. But above all, Jean found his greatest joy in sharing these experiences with his family.
A Life of Adventure and Connection

His career took him through Oregon, Missouri, Kentucky, and back to Arkansas, each step reflecting his deep appreciation for the natural world. Through his work and personal pursuits, Jean cultivated a deep connection to the great outdoors that touched all who knew him.
