Montpelier Rotary Club Hosts Candidate Forum for City Council Elections

The Montpelier Rotary Club is set to host a forum for city council candidates on February 24th at the Montpelier City Hall council chambers. The event, scheduled from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m., is free and open to the public, although seating may be limited.

Candidates slated to participate in the forum include Pelin Kohn, Marc Gwinn, Ben Doyle, and Jim Sheridan. Kohn and Gwinn, representing District 2, will go head-to-head in the only contested race, while others are running unopposed for vacant seats in Districts 1 and 3.

The Bridge’s editor-in-chief, Cassandra Hemenway, will take on the role of moderator for this live, in-person event. Those unable to attend in person can tune in to the live broadcast on ORCA Media, available on Comcast channel 1085 or online at orcamedia.net. Additionally, the forum will be recorded for later viewing on the same website.

Bill Miles, a member of the Rotary Club of Montpelier, expressed the club’s enthusiasm for collaborating with The Bridge and ORCA to make these candidate sessions accessible to the public. “This event aligns with our mission of community service, and we are thrilled to be able to present it,” Miles stated.

Montpelier residents will have the opportunity to cast their votes on Town Meeting Day, scheduled for March 4th, with voting taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the city hall. Registered voters can also request and submit mail-in ballots through the Vermont Secretary of State’s “My Voter Page” at mvp.vermont.gov.

In a show of gratitude, Miles extended appreciation to Cassandra Hemenway and The Bridge for their involvement in the event, as well as to ORCA for broadcasting it. “The forum will play a vital role in helping Montpelier voters make informed decisions on who will lead our city in the coming year,” Miles emphasized.
