Alright, so I was snooping around and found out that the U.S. Congress decided to cancel the money they were gonna give to Montpelier. Apparently, they axed $2.5 million for water main replacement and $1.5 million to fix up a building on Elm Street damaged by floodwaters back in 2023. Tough luck for the city, I guess.

But hold up, don’t start crying just yet. The city manager spilled the tea that they resubmitted their requests to U.S. Sen. Peter Welch for 2026. They’re asking for $100,000 to fix some faulty water system valves and a whopping $5 million for a Community Center makeover. Plus, they sent applications to Sen. Bernie Sanders’ office to speed up water main replacement, sewer pump station upgrades, and river melting system extensions. Talk about playing the field.

Now, let’s talk real estate drama. The Montpelier city councilors gave a thumbs up to a letter backing Vermont’s role in selling the old federal building on 87 State Street. Looks like Peter Walke from the Commission on Resilience and Recovery is in talks with the Agency of Commerce and Community Development to seal the deal. If neither the state nor the city snags the purchase, then it’s auction time for the building and its parking lots, aka “the pit.” Sounds like a reality show waiting to happen.
