Choosing Abundance: Miro Weinberger’s Vision for Vermont’s Future
If you’ve been catching up on podcasts, staying up late watching talk shows, or mindlessly scrolling through social media lately, you’ve definitely come across “Abundance,” the new book by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. They’re basically saying America, especially blue states, is really good at saying no to things instead of actually building stuff. So, we’re all pros at stopping things, not making them happen.
Vermont might seem like it’s in its own little bubble, but this is one conversation we can’t ignore. When Klein talks about how our political system is all about saying no instead of making things happen, he might as well be talking about Vermont’s housing crisis. It’s a nightmare to try and build homes here, thanks to all the rules, mandates, and red tape. So, we’re stuck with crazy high rents, impossible home prices, and more homeless neighbors.
That’s where Let’s Build Homes comes in. We’re fighting to change Vermont’s future from one of blockages to one of progress. We’ve already made some strides this legislative session, pushing for bills to streamline the process of building new housing and updating zoning laws. But it’s not going to be a walk in the park. There are already groups trying to block our progress, so we need to figure out how to grow sustainably without destroying our beautiful state.
If we want a future where homelessness is a thing of the past, families can afford to live here, and everyone has access to good healthcare and education, we need to start building. Otherwise, Vermont will become a playground for the wealthy, while the rest of us struggle to make ends meet. Let’s embrace change, push for results, and create a Vermont where everyone has a place to call home. Join us at www.letsbuildhomes.org.
