Phish Receives Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nomination

The year 2025 has brought exciting news for music enthusiasts as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recently unveiled its nominees, featuring Vermont’s very own jam band legends, Phish. This esteemed group of first-time nominees includes Phish, Chubby Checker, Outkast, Billy Idol, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Maná, and the Black Crowes.

Originating in Burlington back in 1983, Phish came together with a lineup that included drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon, and guitarists Trey Anastasio and Jeff Holdsworth. Over the years, Page McConnell joined in on keys, solidifying the band’s iconic lineup. With a discography spanning 16 studio albums, starting from their debut with “Junta” in 1989 to their latest release “Evolve” last year, Phish has captured the hearts of millions of music lovers worldwide.

While Phish’s album sales and concert DVDs have garnered them commercial success, it is their legendary live performances and immersive festivals that have truly set them apart. Drawing comparisons to the Grateful Dead for their dedicated fan base, Phish has created a musical legacy that transcends generations.

To be considered for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, artists must have released their first recording at least 25 years ago. Among this year’s nominees are also repeat contenders such as Mariah Carey, Oasis, the White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper, Joy Division/New Order, and Soundgarden. In a statement released by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation chair John Sykes, he commended the nominees for their lasting impact on music lovers and the evolution of rock & roll.

Established in 1983 by Atlantic Records cofounder Ahmet Ertegun, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame relies on a 500-member panel of music historians and journalists to determine its inductees. The official list of inductees will be revealed in April, with the induction ceremony set to take place in Los Angeles later in the year. Fans can also participate in the process by casting their votes for their favorite nominee on vote.rockhall.com.

As we eagerly await the final list of inductees, the recognition of Phish as nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame serves as a testament to their enduring influence on the music industry and the hearts of fans worldwide. The band’s unique blend of improvisation, musical prowess, and community spirit has left an indelible mark on the world of rock music, ensuring that their legacy will continue to resonate for years to come.
